Alert-Level Heavy Snow Expected Across Japan - Impact Duration Revealed
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said that the strongest cold front of the winter will arrive from the 23rd to the 25th, and it is expected that heavy snowfalls will occur along the Sea of Japan from Eastern Japan to Western Japan. In particular, from the night of the 23rd to the 24th, the snow is expected to intensify in Hokuriku and northern Kinki, and the agency is urging the public to be aware of earthquakes, traffic accidents, and frozen roads, as well as to be careful of collapses of houses damaged by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake due to the accumulation of snow. Snow is also likely to fall in the eastern Haiti region and the southern Kyushu flatlands, where snowfall has been rare in the past.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) is urging people in snowy areas to avoid going out unnecessarily during this period, and to use winter tires and snow chains if they want to drive. Japan Airlines said that some domestic flights from airports in Hokkaido, Hokuriku and West Japan may be affected by heavy snowfall on the 23rd and 24th, and travelers need to pay close attention to flight information.The JR East's Tohoku Shinkansen, Hokuriku Shinkansen, and Joetsu Shinkansen were also shut down due to power outages this morning, leading to the suspension of some trains.
