Bill to Transition US to 100% Clean Energy Comes at Critical Moment

2019-11-26

In response to new legislation introduced by Representatives Donald McEachin (VA), Deb Haaland (NM), Debbie Dingell (MI), Earl Blumenauer (OR), Paul Tonko (NY), and Chellie Pingree (ME), World Wildlife Fund (WWF) issued the following statement from James Mazzarella, WWF senior vice president of policy and government affairs:

“Deadly mega-storms, extreme droughts, record heatwaves and wildfires, and catastrophic flooding are just the initial impacts we are seeing from a fossil-fuel based economy. We must transform how we power our economy and do it in a way that creates jobs and a better future for children.

“This comes at a critical moment just days before the world gathers in Madrid for COP25. Introduced with over 100 co-sponsors, the 100% Clean Economy Act is the type of practical and effective solution needed to address the carbon crisis fueling climate change and signals to the world the United States will seek to meet the Paris Agreement targets. It will turbo-charge development of renewable energy technology while ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment for all Americans.”
