WWF Statement on Cooperation between CITES and the World Heritage Convention

2019-08-21

In response to the decision by the CITES committee to accept Resolution 15.6, Cooperation between CITES and the World Heritage Convention, WWF issued the following statement from Colman O Criodain, Policy Manager, Wildlife Practice:

"This is an important step toward uniting efforts to tackle unsustainable wildlife trade and efforts to protect our planet’s most treasured natural and cultural places.

"We look forward to seeing more efficient and effective progress toward goals shared by the CITES Secretariat and the World Heritage Centre, including poaching and the harvest of species for illegal and unsustainable international trade. Working together, these bodies can better protect threatened species and the irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration that are natural World Heritage sites."
