The application, known as "My Weather," will detect the user's location and automatically display the latest official weather forecasts and climate information of the user's nearest city, drawing on data from the UN World Weather Information Service (WWIS).

The application, created by the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) on behalf of the UN World Meteorological Organization (WMO), will also allow users to obtain weather information from more than 1,400 cities and bookmark preferred locations for easy access in the future.

"[MyWeather] is an excellent example of collaboration between the international meteorological community to better serve the public worldwide," said WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud at the application's launch in Hong Kong yesterday.

The application is free to download and so far, has been developed for the iPhone platform only.
