Quebec union celebrates National Day for education support personnel
The Centrale des syndicats du Québec is celebrating the work and commitment of the province’s education support personnel, who are integral to transforming schools into communities and greatly contribute to students’ success.
On 29 September, the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ), affiliated to Education International (EI), and the Fédération du personnel de soutien scolaire recognise the crucial role played by education support personnel. These workers are employed in over 81 – often overlooked - job categories which support teachers in addition to ensuring safe and healthy educational environments.
“As a member of the education support personnel myself, and first member of the EI Executive Board in its history coming from this category of staff, I want to wish a happy National Day to all my colleagues in Quebec, but also around the world,” said CSQ Secretary-Treasurer Daniel B. Lafrenière.
Every day, education support personnel ensure that all students have an environment appropriate to learning, he continued, stressing that “the school needs support.”

Education support personnel have been celebrated by this National Day since 1999, in recognition of the work they do.
