EI staff steps in to help refugees in Brussels
Sometimes simple solutions go a long way in solving big challenges, which is why EI staff in Brussels are helping to provide much needed items to scores of refugees camped out in the city’s centre.
Amid the headlines of tragedy and government malaise, staff members at Education International (EI)’s head office in Brussels, Belgium have decided to do what they can to offer assistance to refugees and asylum seekers waiting to receive official documentation from the government. Mostly arriving from Syria, Iraq and Somalia, upwards of a thousand people have been braving the elements in a city park in hopes of receiving refugee status in Europe’s capital.
The EI colleagues have put out the call to friends, acquaintances and even strangers for donations. Items such as warm clothing, blankets, toiletries and sanitary products badly needed, especially for young children and infants.
So far the response has exceeded expectations with deliveries arriving at the office throughout the day.
