From 22-25 September, the Fiji Teachers’ Confederation (FTC), including two Education International (EI) national affiliates, the Fiji Teachers’ Association (FTA) and the Fiji Teachers’ Union (FTU), engaged in a national tour that started in Lautoka city, stopped off in Labasa, and ends in the capital city Suva on 25 September. The tour coincides with the end of EI’s worldwide Unite campaign.
“As we come to the end of this successful global campaign for quality education, with the event at the UN in New York, USA, we commend our Fijian colleagues for their strong involvement in support of the campaign’s goals,” said EI General Secretary Fred van Leeuwen. “I have no doubt that all their considerable efforts over the years, and during this one-year advocacy action especially, will bring quality teachers, quality teaching and learning environments and tools for all in their country.”
Quality education will also be a focus point during World Teachers’ Day, on 5 October, when teachers around the globe will be celebrated in classrooms, villages, and cities for their tireless dedication to the profession.
To make 5 October a day to remember, EI is calling on all members and colleagues to participate by having their voices heard to ensure that world leaders know how important a quality teacher is in helping students reach their full potential.
