Pakistan: Remembering murdered teachers
Education International will organize a memorial for the teachers who have been murdered recently and establish a scholarship fund to encourage girls’ education to support Pakistan teachers and students victimised simply because of their support for girls' schooling.
EI is working closely with its member organisations in Pakistan and with the Pakistani labour confederations to organize a public rally in Pakistan, bringing together all those who are opposed to the current wave of violence against schools and who wish to see all children attending school.
“Next week we will issue a joint statement on girls’ education with the Pakistani teachers organizations, the Pakistani Trade Union Centres and International Trade Union Confederation, sending a strong message to the international community to take action against these heinous crimes,” said EI General Secretary Fred van Leeuwen.
