Texas teacher-of-the-year in trouble over schoolgirl claims
A man who was named as the teacher of the year in 2011 by a Texas school has been arrested.
John McDaniel has been accused of an inappropriate relationship with a female minor.
According to police in Colleyville, Texas, Mr McDaniel taught the 15-year-old girl when he was her band teacher.
Police said they had obtained a confession from the 32-year-old, who allegedly exchanged nude photos with the girl over the Internet.
The unidentified victim has claimed that an improper relationship started when she was in eighth-grade.
According to police documents, McDaniel sent inappropriate photographs of himself after receiving a topless photo of the girl.
Police will allege the pair were in contact over the Internet and mobile phones for about a year, during which time the explicit material was exchanged.
The alleged relationship was only discovered when a family member discovered emails from McDaniel who had been head band director at the Coleyville Middle School since 2009.
McDaniel has been placed on administrative leave by the school.
