Jobs says there will be no free iPhones
Apple's CEO, Steve Jobs, has rejected suggestions that new improved iPhones should be handed out to buyers of the newest version.
While he has admitted the iPhone 4's design was essentially flawed, he has offered consumers free phone cases to address reception complaints.
Just before the weekend, Mr Jobs made a rare appearance at a 90-minute press conference to assert that reception issues were a problem shared by the entire smartphone industry, not just Apple.
He specifically named Apple rivals, Research in Motion, Samsung Electronics and HTC Corp.
Mr Jobs said there were no problems with the iPhone 4's antenna design, even though some users had reported drastically reduced signal strength when they held the touch-screen phone in a certain way.
Apple has lost more than $16 billion of its market value since the new phone was released on June 24th, although shares climbed again briefly last week when Jobs offered the free case to users.
