Palestine: Hamas Should Halt Executions
The Hamas authorities in the Gaza Strip should halt planned executions. Three men were put to death on the morning of May 31, 2016, as the first step in a declared plan to kill 13 convicted criminals. The executions came after a number of highly publicized murders.

Sudan: Hundreds Deported to Likely Abuse
The Sudanese authorities deported at least 442 Eritreans, including six registered refugees, to Eritrea in May 2016, Human Rights Watch said on May 30. Sudan denied the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) access to identify those who wanted to claim asylum and also denied the agency access to 64 Ethiopians still in detention who risk deportation.

Governments, employers, and workers from around the world are meeting in Geneva for the annual labor summit, starting on May 30, 2016, to discuss how to ensure “decent work” in global supply chains.

Sri Lanka: Consultations Lacking on Missing Persons’ Office
The Sri Lankan government ratified the Convention against Enforced Disappearance but in the same week created an Office of Missing Persons without promised consultations with families of the “disappeared,” Human Rights Watch said on MAY 27. The government should honor its pledge to hold meaningful consultations with the affected families and nongovernmental representatives about the missing persons’ office and the other transitional justice mechanisms.
