A mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Mr. Ekué Kpodar, visited Niamey during December 9-20, 2013 to hold discussions with the Nigerien authorities on the second and third reviews of the economic and financial program supported by the IMF's Extended Credit Facility (ECF). The World Bank Office hosted a comprehensive discussion of the ongoing research and architectural restoration work carried out in the Telavi Batonistsikhe (King’s Palace) Cultural Heritage Complex. The Batonistsikhe Complex incorporates monuments and buildings that belong to various periods and carry various functions, and are included in the State Register for Monuments of Cultural Heritage: XVII-XVIII centuries’ fence, XVII-XVIII centuries’ small court church, XVII-XVIII centuries military church, XVII-XVIII centuries cannon tower, and mid-XIX century “Treasury House.” The rehabilitation of the Batonistsikhe Complex is carried out in accordance with all the rules and regulations set out in the Law on Protection of Georgia’s Cultural Heritage.

The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved a US$14.6 million grant to help 45,000 Samoans who live in coastal communities adapt to climate change and climate variability. The Enhancing the Climate Resilience of Coastal Resources and Communities Project will develop and implement immediate adaptation activities to protect the lives and livelihoods of the people; protect infrastructure and environment; and increase awareness of climate change impacts and adaptation activities among communities, civil society and government.

IMF Executive Board Approves Three-Year, US$41.6 Million ECF for Burkina Faso and US$3.9 Million Disbursement

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved a new three-year arrangement for a total amount of SDR 27.09 million (about US$ 41.6 million, or 45 percent of quota) under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) for Burkina Faso. The approval enables an immediate disbursement equivalent to SDR 2.55 million (about US$ 3.9 million). The Board’s decision was taken on a lapse of time basis.
