Working conditions: time for Member States of European Commission to implement the ILO domestic workers convention
The European Commission welcomes the adoption by the EU's Council of Ministers of a Decision authorising Member States to ratify the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention concerning fair and decent work for domestic workers (Convention No. 189). The Decision was proposed by the Commission in March 2013 (see IP/13/264), and endorsed by the European Parliament. The 2011 ILO Domestic Workers Convention requires signatory countries to take measures to ensure fair and decent working conditions and to prevent abuse, violence and child labour in domestic employment.

French capital should prepare now for risk of a costly Seine flood
A major flooding of the Seine River similar to the flood disaster of 1910 could affect up to 5 million residents in the greater Paris area and cause up to 30 billion euros worth of damage, according to a new OECD report. World Bank Statement on Proposed Lukovo Pole Hydropower Project
In 2011, at the request of the Government of FYR Macedonia, the World Bank agreed to consider support for the proposed Lukovo Pole Hydropower Project. The proposed project aims to increase FYR Macedonia’s reliance on renewable energy and improve water storage capacity to reduce vulnerability to variations in rainfall. This would increase electricity generation from three existing downstream hydropower plants that are operating in the Mavrovo area, by building a storage dam with a small reservoir, as well as a small-scale hydropower plant.

More than Half a Million Jamaicans to Find a PATH to New Opportunities
The World Bank’s Board of Directors approved US$40 million in additional funding to strengthen Jamaica’s largest safety net program, already reaching more than 400,000 vulnerable people. The funding will enhance the effectiveness of the Program of Advancement through Health and Education (PATH) and expand its reach to more than half a million poor Jamaicans.
