OECD and FAO expect stronger agricultural production, lower prices over coming decade - Rising incomes in developing world spurring demand for food, dietary changes

Strong crop yields, higher productivity and slower growth in global demand should contribute to a gradual decline in real prices for agricultural products over the coming decade, but nonetheless, prices will likely remain at levels above those in the early-2000s, according to the latest Agricultural Outlook report produced by the OECD and FAO.

IMF Concludes 2015 Article IV Consultation Mission to Myanmar

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team led by Mr. Yongzheng Yang visited Myanmar during June 17 to July 1 to hold the 2015 Article IV consultation discussions. The team met with Vice President U Nyan Tun, Deputy Governors of the Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) U Set Aung, Daw Khin Saw Oo, and U Soe Min, Deputy Minister of Finance Dr. Maung Maung Thein, and other senior officials. The team also held discussions with parliamentarians and private sector representatives.

Global Food Prices Drop to a Five-Year Low

International food prices decreased by 14% between August 2014 and May 2015, dropping to a five-year low, according to the latest edition of Food Price Watch.

President Schulz on EU proposals: "A hand stretched to the Greek people"

EP President Martin Schulz said the EU institutions are appealing to the Greek people to vote in favour of their proposals during Sunday's referendum. Speaking about proposals made to continue economic support for the country, Schulz said Monday this represented "a hand stretched to the Greek people", adding that the result of the referendum would prove "fundamental" to Greece's position in the euro zone.
