Revise EU’s long-term budget to cope with today's challenges, urge MEPs
The EU needs to update its long-term financing plan to cope with new priorities and challenges such as mass migration, internal security and youth unemployment, said MEPs in a resolution voted on Wednesday. The text sets out political recommendations for the EU Commission’s forthcoming proposal to revise the EU’s multiannual financial framework (MFF) for 2014-2020. The update should also tackle the recurring backlog of overdue EU payments, and look beyond 2020, add MEPs.

Getting refugees to work: MEPs call for a win-win approach
Allowing refugees and asylum seekers to work in their host countries not only helps to restore their human dignity, but also reduces strain on public budgets by turning them into taxpayers, says a non-binding resolution voted on Tuesday. Inclusion schemes should nonetheless emphasise language learning and pay attention to local unemployment rates, especially among young people, it adds.

IMF Executive Board Concludes 2016 Article IV Consultation with Norway
On June 29, 2016, the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) concluded the Article IV consultation with Norway.
The declines in oil prices and offshore investment have taken a toll on the Norwegian mainland economy: growth fell to 1 percent in 2015—the lowest level since the global financial crisis. The drag from private investment was offset by continued growth in household consumption, expansionary fiscal policy and a boost to traditional goods exports, aided by the weak krone.
