World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development opens in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan

Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, 10 November: UNESCO’s Director-General and Japan’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology have opened the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The opening ceremony took place in the presence of Their Imperial Highnesses the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Japan following stakeholder meetings last week in Okayama.

Haiti: More than 230,000 Children to Benefit from Improved Schooling

Haitian Minister of Economy and Finance Marie Carmelle Jean-Marie and World Bank Special Envoy Mary Barton-Dock signed a grant of US$24 million from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) to help 230,000 children attend school and receive quality education through tuition waivers and other support. The funding complements an ongoing Education for All project of US$85 million managed by the World Bank.
