Concluding youth event of Germany’s OSCE Chairmanship to give stronger voice to young people on current security challenges

As the final event in a series of outreach activities to young people across the OSCE region in 2016, Germany’s OSCE Chairmanship, in co-operation with the Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe, held a two-day youth conference in Berlin on 10 and 11 November. Thirty participants between the ages of 16 and 25 years from OSCE participating States gathered in the Federal Foreign Office to debate different notions of security in the OSCE region from a youth perspective.

US Elections: "Though we are disheartened, we must not lose heart."

The election of Donald Trump has stunned the American education unions NEA and AFT. Both unions have actively campaigned for the election of Hillary Clinton who had promised to give quality public education for all a prominent place on her political agenda.

"We poured our hopes, our energy and our hearts into this campaign to elect someone we believed would bring the change we do desperately need," says Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers, in a public statement issued on Thursday. "It breaks our hearts that the Hillary Clinton we know and love was not the person so many voters saw. But our deep belief in our democracy, in the power of people together, in the cause of opportunity and justice, will compel us to come together to move forward, no matter the odds."

UNESCO advocates central role for education in international responses to climate change

The United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP22, taking place in Marrakech, Morocco (7-18 November) will dedicate the day of 14 November to the critical role of education in the global response to climate change, recognized in Article 12 of last year’s Paris Climate Change Agreement (COP21), as well as in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 13.

UNESCO will showcase education for climate change awareness and resilience through side-events and two new publications.
