No Time to Wait for Superman: Educators Prepare to Canvass the Country to Identify What Works in American Schools

Odyssey Initiative will discover and share the practices that exemplary schools and teachers use to inform the development of new schools for historically disadvantaged communities. They believe that an increased national awareness of the best practices and strategic planning of effective teachers will raise the quality of the discussion surrounding education policy as well as our level of achievement nationwide.

It’s not common, in today’s employment climate, to hear of people walking away from job security. Three Brooklyn public school teachers have done just that. In an effort to propel the education reform movement, they have launched The Odyssey Initiative (OI), a multi-year project with three goals: To find what is working in schools around the country, to share those findings with the public, and to use this rich knowledge to create a new school.

Are we happy with our teachers??? Naked truth behind the profession

It is a crime to disagree with our teachers in the class. We should not ask questions that can make a teacher annoyed. We learned to make presentations which have less content and more animations. Last minute preparations matter in an examination than learning the concepts-These are some of the teachings and common perception which is paralyzing today’s education system and questioning the role of teachers in an educational institution. Focusing on these issues happening in the current scenario, Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata organized a workshop today for the teachers on the topic “Changing role of teachers” sponsored by TEQIP Phase-II and was addressed by Dr. Harish Chaudhary, Assistant Professor, Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi. Dr. Chaudhary has a broad experience in education management and is a motivational speaker for today’s teachers in educational institutions. He had addressed in many other workshops conducted by various educational institutions from schools to universities across the globe.

After years of progress, new UNESCO study shows numbers of out-of-school children rising, especially in Africa

Progress towards providing access to education for all has stalled, according to new data from UNESCO which shows 61 million primary-age children out-of-school in 2010, the same figure as for 2008. The number of out-of-school children had been in steady decline over the past 15 years. Girls, who represented 58% of out-of-school children in 2000 and 53% in 2010, benefited most from the efforts to improve access to education. But progress has now stopped and the number of children out of school has stagnated. The complete data on these trends is now accessible in an online atlas published by the UIS.
