Invasive alien species: MEPs reach agreement with the Greek Presidency
Plans to prevent the introduction or halt the spread of “invasive alien species” of plants, animals or insects that cause ecological and economic damage were agreed by MEPs and the Greek Presidency of the Council on Wednesday. The draft legislation, which would require EU member states to coordinate their efforts, provides for a ban on species declared to be of “Union concern”.

EPA Stops Illegal Import of Vehicles That Fail to Meet Pollution Standards
A Chinese powersports company and its related U.S. distributor have agreed to recall and replace fuel tanks that will better control gasoline vapors in approximately 1,000 vehicles and take other steps to control pollution stemming from the illegal import of over 12,000 recreational vehicles and highway motorcycles.

Greenpeace “thanks” P&G for forest destruction as protest takes place at company’s HQ
Greenpeace released a spoof video of the Procter & Gamble’s “Thank You Mom” advertisement showing how deforestation for palm oil is orphaning orangutans in Indonesian. Greenpeace activists also took action at P&G’s global headquarters in a protest with a ‘tiger’ hanging from a zip line between the company’s two iconic buildings.

Procter & Gamble brings rainforest destruction into bathrooms
Procter & Gamble, which makes Head & Shoulders, is sourcing palm oil from companies connected to orangutan habitat clearance in Indonesia, making consumers part of a widespread forest destruction scandal. That's according to findings from a yearlong investigation by Greenpeace International, which also reveals that current sourcing policies of the personal care company also expose its supply chain to forest fires and habitat destruction that is pushing the Sumatran tiger to the edge of extinction.

Port of Oakland Rejects Proposals to Construct New Coal Export Terminal
The Port of Oakland Board of Commissioners last night voted to reject proposals to build a new dirty, dangerous coal and petroleum coke export facility at the Charles P. Howard Terminal in Oakland. Citing environmental problems, public health hazards, economic pitfalls, and public opposition to the project, the Port Commissioners voted unanimously to reject two proposals that would have opened the Bay Area up to additional fossil fuel export facilities.
