EPA Proposes Standards to Reduce Mercury Discharges from Dental Offices
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed standards under the Clean Water Act to help cut discharges of dental amalgam to the environment. Amalgam is a mixture of mercury and other metals that dentists use to fill cavities. Mercury is discharged when dentists remove old fillings or remove excess amalgam when placing a new filling.

EPA, DOJ reach agreement with CNMI and CUC Saipan to move forward with work on oil spill cleanup and prevention at CUC power plants
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Justice announced an agreement as part of a Federal District court order with the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation (CUC) and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) that furthers oil spill cleanup, preparedness and response efforts and critical infrastructure improvements at all of CUC’s power plants.

Dirty Coal shown red card by India’s Supreme Court
Greenpeace International and Greenpeace India welcomed the Indian Supreme Court's landmark decision on the country's coal scam following the Court's cancellation of the licenses of 214 coal blocks. Significantly, this included Essar and Hindalco's Mahan coal block, where the Mahan Sangharsh Samiti and Greenpeace India have been engaged in a long campaign with the company over the proposed open cast coal mine.

U.S. EPA and San Francisco Department of the Environment honor five custodial cleaning companies recognized as Green Businesses
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the San Francisco Department of the Environment honored five companies who successfully completed the Custodial Green Cleaning pilot program, the first Green Business program in the nation focused on protecting custodial worker health by switching from harmful cleaning products to greener products and methods. To date, 300 custodians have been trained under the pilot program and over 12,000 gallons of harmful cleaning chemicals have been eliminated each year.
