Former City of Newark Employee Sentenced to Prison for Attempted Extortion
A former City of Newark, N.J., official was sentenced today to six months in prison and six months of home confinement for attempted extortion, after admitting that he accepted a $10,000 corrupt payment in order to assist a contractor in obtaining demolition contracts with the city, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.

Former Kershaw County, South Carolina Sheriff’s Department Officer Sentenced for Assaulting a Handcuffed Arrestee
The Justice Department announced today that Oddie Tribble, 51, a former deputy sheriff with the Kershaw County, S.C., Sheriff’s Office, was sentenced to 63 months in prison and three years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Cameron McGowan Currie for using excessive force on a man in his custody on Aug. 5, 2010. Tribble was also ordered to pay restitution of $5,109.25 to the victim.

A Fairview Heights man was convicted in U.S. District Court on April 27, 2011, for Making a False Threat to Detonate an Explosive Device, and Influencing a Federal Officer by Threat, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today. Roman O. Conaway, 51, was indicted by a Federal Grand Jury on October 5, 2010, in a two-count indictment following a seven hour standoff with federal authorities.
