Egypt: UN Should Condemn Worsening Abuses
Egypt’s allies should use the country’s November 5, 2014 review at the UN Human Rights Council to condemn the most dramatic reversal of human rights in Egypt’s modern history under President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The United States and other allies should in particular condemn imminent threats to shut down the country’s most prominent nongovernmental organizations.

Syria: ISIS Tortured Kobani Child Hostages
Kurdish children from the Syrian city of Kobani (or Ain al-`Arab in Arabic) were tortured and abused while detained by Islamic State (also known as ISIS), Human Rights Watch said. Four children gave detailed accounts of the suffering they endured while held for four months with about 100 other children.

Yemen: HIV Patients Denied Health Care
People with HIV and AIDS are routinely denied care within Yemen’s health care system, Human Rights Watch said in an October 2014 letter to the Yemeni minister of health released. Yemeni authorities should end discrimination by health workers against people with HIV and ensure patients’ equal access to healthcare services, as mandated by a 2009 law.
