FBI and Atlanta PD Announce Capture in Detroit, Michigan of Atlanta Murder Suspect Dwight Lewis
David J. LeValley, special agent in charge (SAC), FBI Atlanta Field Office, in conjunction with Detroit FBI SAC David P. Gelios, and Erika Shields, chief of police, Atlanta Police Department, announce the following arrest on August 3, 2017 in Detroit, Michigan.
On Thursday, August 03, 2017, Dwight Lewis, age 26, of Atlanta, Georgia was arrested without incident by FBI agents and Task force Officers of the Detroit FBI Violent Crime Task Force, in Detroit, Michigan.
Lewis is wanted by the Atlanta Police Department where he is charged with murder in the February 2, 2017 homicide of a 16-year-old girl.
On Thursday, February 2, 2017, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Dwight Lewis is alleged to have fired several rounds from his semi-automatic handgun, as part of an altercation, into a vehicle with a 16-year-old female inside. The 16-year-old female was struck and died from her injuries. The shooting occurred at the Deerfield Gardens Apartments located at 2909 Campbellton Road S.W., Atlanta.
Lewis is being detained at the Wayne County Detention Facility, Detroit, Michigan where he will await extradition proceedings back to Atlanta, Georgia.
