Ukraine peace plan: “Minsk II must deliver”, say MEPs
The Merkel/Hollande peace initiative in Ukraine, and in particular Wednesday’s meeting of the leaders of Germany, France, Ukraine and Russia in Minsk (Belarus) to find a way out of the crisis, were debated by MEPs with EU Foreign Affairs chief Federica Mogherini on Tuesday afternoon.
EU must put every effort into helping to end the war in eastern Ukraine, say MEPs
Most speakers echoed Ms Mogherini’s concerns about deteriorating relations between Ukraine and Russia and agreed that Wednesday’s “Normandy format” meeting in Minsk of the leaders of Germany, France, Ukraine and Russia, would be one of last chances to find a diplomatic solution for peace in Europe. They also warned that a failure of “Minsk II” might lead to an escalation of the conflict. The majority of speakers opposed a “military solution”, but some called on the EU to drop any illusions that a “partnership” with Russia was possible.
