Conference of Presidents in Rome
Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi welcomed the Parliament's Conference of Presidents, chaired by interim EP president Gianni Pittella, to Rome, ahead of his country taking over the presidency of the EU Council on 1 July.

Mr Pittella, an Italian member of the S&D group, underlined the importance of the meeting in Palazzo Chigi with the Italian prime minister and government, stressing that Italy wants to change Europe's direction and that the European Parliament will be a valuable ally. During the meeting at the Quirinale, Mr Pittella thanked Italian president Giorgio Napolitano for "his tireless efforts for the revival of the European dream”.
The delegation was received in the Italian senate by the presidents of the senate and chamber of Deputies, Pietro Grasso and Laura Boldrini.
