UNICEF condemns attack on health facility, killing of aid staff in Central African Republic

“UNICEF is outraged by the attack on a health centre that killed 22 civilians, including three aid workers with the medical humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), in the northern town of Boguila, Central African Republic, on Saturday 26 April.

“Attacks on health facilities and personnel are a grave violation of children’s right to health and seriously hamper our capacity to provide critical aid to those who need it most.

“We call on all parties to the conflict in the Central African Republic to respect all health centres as neutral humanitarian institutions and safe havens for the treatment of children as well as the wounded and sick.

“The attack on MSF staff is an attack on all humanitarian workers whose courage and determination even in the most dangerous situations save and improve children’s lives in the Central African Republic and around the world.

“UNICEF expresses its deepest sympathies to the families and communities of the victims and stands in solidarity with our partner, MSF.”
