Apple Inc. held its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026) in the early hours of June 9 (Taiwan time), officially unveiling its next-generation software platforms and a range of artificial intelligence features. Centered around Apple Intelligence, the announcements included the most significant upgrade ever made to Siri, highlighting Apple's continued efforts to expand its AI ecosystem. The company also introduced updates to its six major operating systems: iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27. Developer beta versions are available immediately, with public betas expected in July and official releases scheduled for this fall.

One of the most anticipated announcements was the complete overhaul of Siri. No longer limited to executing simple voice commands, Siri is evolving into a more intelligent personal assistant capable of understanding users' individual contexts. The new version can analyze information across messages, emails, photos, and other content while providing assistance based on the user's current activities. Siri can also recognize and interpret on-screen text, images, and documents, enabling it to carry out multi-step tasks across different applications. Apple has further integrated visual intelligence into Siri, allowing the AI to understand the surrounding environment through camera input and screen content. In addition to voice interaction, users can now communicate with Siri through text, with the feature integrated into Dynamic Island, Spotlight Search, and a dedicated Siri app.

The next generation of Apple Intelligence extends AI capabilities across a variety of everyday tools. The Photos app gains advanced editing features that can remove unwanted objects, expand image content using generative AI, and automatically adjust compositions. Safari now includes intelligent tab organization, automatically grouping tabs by topic. The Passwords app strengthens account security by identifying weak or compromised passwords and recommending updates. The Home app incorporates AI-powered event summaries, converting footage captured by security cameras into concise text descriptions. In addition, system-wide Writing Tools can assist users with drafting, revising, and refining content while adapting tone and wording for different audiences.

Regarding performance improvements, Apple stated that the new software has been optimized for faster app launches, improved search efficiency, and enhanced file transfer speeds. Most iPhones currently compatible with the previous-generation operating system will also support iOS 27. However, some older devices will gradually lose support. Notably, Mac computers powered by Intel processors are no longer included in the compatibility list for the latest macOS release, reflecting Apple's ongoing transition toward the Apple Silicon architecture. Apple Intelligence features are expected to enter testing later this year, initially focusing on English-language support. Due to varying regulatory requirements, some AI services will not be available at launch in certain European markets and mainland China.

Beyond product announcements, the event also drew attention due to speculation surrounding Apple CEO Tim Cook. Market rumors suggest that he may step down later this year, leading many to view this year's conference as potentially his final WWDC keynote as CEO. In his closing remarks, Cook thanked developers and employees around the world, stating that the technology industry is entering a new era of innovation. He emphasized that Apple's mission remains focused on creating products that improve people's lives and expressed strong optimism about the company's future innovations.
