NVIDIA Launches Next-Gen AI Module to Seize the Era of General-Purpose Robots
NVIDIA, the global leader in AI chips, on August 25 unveiled its next-generation edge computing platform, Jetson AGX Thor, which the company hails as “the new brain for robots.” Powered by the new Blackwell GPU architecture, Jetson Thor delivers more than seven times the performance of its predecessor, Orin, while achieving significant gains in energy efficiency—paving the way for the coming era of general-purpose robotics.
NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang said the platform was designed for developers and is capable of running multiple generative AI models simultaneously while interacting with the physical world. He described Jetson Thor as a milestone for advancing “physical AI”, enabling humanoid robots, medical-assist devices, and automated systems to respond more intelligently and in real time.
According to NVIDIA, the system features 128GB of memory and provides up to 2,070 TFLOPS of computing power at just 130 watts. Compared with the previous generation, it not only doubles performance but also significantly improves efficiency, making it suitable for power-constrained environments such as warehouses, hospitals, and farms.
The module’s high level of integration allows it to process imaging, voice, and sensor data simultaneously, supporting complex workloads such as precision navigation and real-time inference. Jetson Thor also integrates deeply with NVIDIA’s Isaac robotics platform and its GR00T foundation model, enabling developers to move rapidly from research to commercial deployment and accelerating time to market.
The Jetson AGX Thor Developer Kit is available globally at $3,499 (approximately NT$107,000). Since the launch of the Jetson series in 2014, the platform has attracted over two million developers and built a broad ecosystem of partners. Industry analysts expect the new release to further energize the robotics supply chain—spanning humanoid robots, smart manufacturing, and logistics—and spark the next wave of industrial opportunities.
