Apple WWDC 2025 Highlights: The 26 Series
Apple Inc. held its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9th local time (early morning of June 10th Taipei time). CEO Tim Cook led software department executives onto the stage to unveil several software innovations, including significant operating system updates. A major highlight, besides numerous substantial modifications, was the renaming of operating systems to include the year, such as iOS 26, watchOS 26, iPadOS 26, tvOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, and visionOS 26.
Apple also announced new features for its Apple Intelligence personalized intelligence system, allowing developers to leverage the company's Foundation Models framework. This provides fast, privacy-focused, and offline AI capabilities within applications, upgrading the iPhone experience and enabling users to complete tasks more easily. However, some eagerly anticipated Siri features will be delayed.
The Liquid Glass design language, offering translucent and dynamically responsive visual effects for the user interface, will be fully adopted to enhance consistency and modernity in user experience, providing both aesthetics and visual tension. This design will be applied across multiple Apple platforms. The extended CarPlay interface, derived from this design, has been completely revamped, making the display more concise. iOS 26 introduces a real-time translation feature to help users instantly translate text and speech for cross-language communication.
Visual Intelligence, built upon Apple Intelligence, allows users to switch applications to search and interact with any content while identifying and searching within iPhone applications. Other new features include a redesigned CarPlay interface; watchOS 26 introduces the Workout Buddy fitness feature; to boost productivity, iPadOS 26 incorporates macOS's bottom window tabs; Apple Vision Pro AR/VR headsets will also support new control accessories; to expand virtual reality experiences, visionOS adds support for PlayStation VR controllers; AirPods gain studio-quality audio and camera remote control functions; and Tapback allows commonly used message bubbles to be pinned to the top for easy access.
Apple CEO Tim Cook also stated that the developer beta version was released after the conclusion of WWDC 2025, allowing developers to test these new features starting immediately. A public beta will be released in July, with the official version expected to roll out comprehensively this fall.
