Mysterious Spiral Light Appears in European Night Sky Experts Reveal the Cause
People across multiple European countries witnessed a spectacular blue-white spiral light in the night sky on the 24th local time, sparking widespread discussion! At first, many speculated that it could be an unidentified flying object (UFO) or a rare astronomical phenomenon. However, experts later explained that this was actually an optical effect caused by the Falcon 9 rocket launched by SpaceX, which released fuel at high altitude.
Reportedly, the Falcon 9 rocket was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, to carry out the U.S. government’s classified NROL-69 mission. During its deorbit burn, the rocket’s second-stage booster released leftover fuel, which quickly cooled and formed ice crystals at high altitude. When illuminated by sunlight, these ice crystals reflected bright, spiral-shaped light. Because the rocket was spinning while releasing the fuel, it created a visual effect resembling the rotation of a galaxy.
This type of spiral light phenomenon is not new. In 2022, a similar blue spiral appeared in the skies over New Zealand due to the exhaust from a Falcon 9 rocket. In 2021, China’s Long March 2C rocket also produced a similar optical effect. Experts emphasize that these spirals, formed by frozen rocket fuel, are not dangerous. Moreover, other types of rockets can create the same visual effect.
British astronomers stress that while this sight is spectacular, it is not a supernatural event but rather a byproduct of human space activities. In the future, as commercial and scientific space missions increase, similar sky phenomena may become more common.
