Warren Buffett donation adds $1.6 billion to charity
Billionaire US investor Warren Buffett has donated $1.6 billion to charity through the Bill Gates Foundation.
Mr Buffett, who owns the investment company Berkshire Hathaway, pledged in 2006 to shed 99% of his wealth through charitable organisations.
This year's donation is higher than last years figure of $1.5 billion, due to improvements in Berkshire Hathaway profits.
In 2006, Mr Buffett made the largest philanthropic donation in US history, giving $37 billion to the Gates Foundation.
Mr Buffett is a trustee of the foundation, which is run by Mr Gates and his wife, Melinda.
The Gates Foundation spent $3 billion in 2009, which included money for scholarships for American college students.
