NTU Trade Expert Bryan Riley Testifies Before Senate HELP Committee on Tariffs | WPN World People News

Bryan Riley, director of the National Taxpayers Union’s Free Trade Initiative, testified on Sep 05 before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions during their hearing on "The Impact of Zero Tariffs on U.S. Autoworkers." The hearing was held to determine the impacts of steel and aluminum tariffs on the American labor force and largely focused on the uncertainty stemming from the Trump Administration's approach to trade policy.

In his testimony Riley said:

"Trade has been an important part of our country’s history from the very start, beginning with the Declaration of Independence, which was in part a response to barriers that cut off our trade with all parts of the world, and the U.S. Constitution, which created the largest and most successful free trade area in history. NTU supports President Trump’s stated goal of zero tariffs, zero non-tariff barriers, and zero subsidies in international trade. However, we are concerned that for the first time since the end of World War II, U.S. and foreign trade barriers are increasing precipitously. "

NTU has been a leading voice speaking out against the Administration's current trade policies and the negative economic impact the implemented and proposed tariffs could have.
