New pipeline expected in India from Turkmenistan
A natural gas pipeline planned from Turkmenistan to India is expected to receive favourable consideration from India's state-owned utility company GAIL.
An agreement is expected to be signed next week after the Indian government announced the Gas Authority of India could go ahead with a gas sale and purchase agreement with Turkmenistan's national energy company TurrnenGas.
The pipeline will supply natural gas through Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan and India.
The United States government prefers the Turkmenistan pipe over another plan by Iran to shift gas from the South Pars field in the Persian Gulf.
Recently New Delhi had to lower the amount of crude oil it purchases from Iran.
