Save the Children Preparing to Help Families Impacted by Hurricane Irma in the U.S. and Caribbean | WPN World People News

As Hurricane Irma continues its potentially catastrophic path through the Caribbean and sets its sights on the United States, Save the Children is preparing to respond to help children and families most affected by the storm.

Save the Children’s emergency team is carefully monitoring the hurricane’s impact in multiple countries. Its Emergency Health Unit has pre-deployed to the Dominican Republic and stands ready to respond in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. In the United States, staff are being mobilized to mount a response wherever the needs of children are greatest.

Save the Children is known for setting up Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) in shelters after emergencies to allow kids the opportunity to play and read in a safe environment, while their parents begin the recovery process. CFS kits are packed and ready to be deployed with trained staff as soon as the impact of the storm becomes clearer.
