U.S. Tornadoes in Feburary and March.
Tornadoes tore through several communities in southern Indiana March 2, leaving behind a wide swatch of destruction and damaged homes and businesses, plus a number of deaths. This and other areas were hit so hard that it was difficult, if possible at all, to identify what the litter on the landscape had been.
The community of Henryville was hit brutally hard, with destruction, damage and deaths the result of tornadoes that tore through the center of town March 2. FEMA, state and local officials were there March 6 and 7 to assess the damage, with assessments going to the Governor of Indiana for evaluation and a possible recommendation for a presidential disaster declaration.
As result of the February tornado, Individual Assistance Preliminary Damage Assessments are being conducted door to door in storm affected areas of Saline County by local, state, and federal teams as represented here by Harrisburg Fire Chief Bill Summers, Kate Mackz, State Emergency Management Agency Representative, and Larry Duke, FEMA Individual Assistance Specialist.This Assessment is required before FEMA can recommend issuance of a Presidential Disaster Declaration.
Storm survivor faces an overwhelming task in recovering from the deadly tornado of February 28. Individual Assistance Preliminary Damage Assessments are being conducted today on a house by house, street by street basis in Saline County by local, state, and federal teams. This Assessment is required before FEMA can recommend issuance of a Presidential Disaster Declaration.
