Tunis: Condemnation of murder of MP and comrade Mohamed Brahmi
Education International (EI) strongly condemns the killing of Mohamed Brahmi, a secular Tunisian political leader. An outspoken critic of the Government who represented the Front Populaire in the Tunisian Parliament, Mohamed Brahmi was shot down in front of his home in Tunis on 25 July.
This political assassination calls to mind the murder of Chokri Belaïd, another left-wing Tunisian political activist, on February 6th of this year in similar circumstances.
EI joins the Tunisian and international trade union community in condemning this new attempt to silence a voice that has been defending the values of freedom and tolerance.
More than ever, EI stands firmly by its affiliates in Tunisia to support their commitment to defending the rule of law, democracy, and respect for human and trade union rights in Tunisia.
EI also calls on the Tunisian authorities and on all political forces to ensure that the conditions for an open, democratic, and peaceful dialogue are met in Tunisia.
Education International expresses its condolences to the family, friends and supporters of Mohamed Brahmi and joins the Tunisian nation in mourning.
