In an era marked by global turmoil and uncertainty, peace has become the shared aspiration of humanity. From August 17 to 21, the Federation of World Peace and Love (FOWPAL) visited Brunei, known as the “Abode of Peace,” marking its 120th milestone country. The delegation emphasized that without peace there can be no stability, and that peace is the essential force for fostering prosperity and security. On August 18, Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, President of FOWPAL, paid a special visit to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, where Haji Abdullah Fekree, Special Assistant to the Minister, received the delegation on behalf of the Minister. During the meeting, Dr. Hong shared the six guiding words — “true and false, right and wrong, good and bad” — expressing his hope for collective efforts to build a peaceful and harmonious world.

Brunei’s official religion is Islam, with 81 percent of its population identifying as Muslim. Yet the government also demonstrates respect and inclusiveness toward non-Muslim communities, such as Christians and Buddhists, fostering peaceful coexistence. In August 1999, Dr. Hong declared his grand vision of “A World of One Heart: A Well-Spring of Happiness” and founded FOWPAL the following year. Through initiatives such as the World Leader Summit of Love and Peace, the Bell of World Peace and Love ceremonies, and cultural exchanges, he has tirelessly promoted the message of love and peace. In response to today’s global turmoil, Dr. Hong has advanced the vision of “A World of One Heart, Peace, and Sustainability,” reflecting his deep concern for society, the world, and all humanity. By bringing the philosophy of holistic education for all — encompassing love and peace, conscience, and hope — to Brunei, FOWPAL emphasizes that such education transcends race, age, and religion. It enables individuals to achieve physical, mental, and spiritual balance and well-being, laying the foundation for lasting global peace.

Dr. Hong and FOWPAL volunteers also visited Brunei’s renowned landmarks to gain insight into the nation’s culture and history, while engaging with local residents. The teachings of Islam emphasize peace, tolerance, and harmony, fostering equality from the royal family to ordinary citizens. The majestic Jame Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, celebrated for its stunning architecture and golden domes, also serves important educational and social welfare functions. From an early age, people are nurtured with values of kindness and compassion, which have played a vital role in shaping Brunei’s social harmony.

Tourism is another vital artery of Brunei’s economy. With more than 80 percent of the country covered by rainforest, the government has refrained from excessive development, committed to preserving a complete ecological system and forming a natural protective network. While many nations are suffering severe consequences from climate change, the people of Brunei are able to live in stability and prosperity. Local tourism operators note that there is not a single zoo in the country, as the rainforest itself is Brunei’s zoo. For many years, Dr. Hong has emphasized that only by nurturing love and conscience and unleashing our positive energy can humanity ensure environmental sustainability.

Volunteers invited global visitors to endorse the Declarations of the International Day of Conscience, World Day of the Power of Hope, and Transparency and Integrity, promoting trust, harmony, and prosperity.

The Royal Regalia Museum documents the Sultan of Brunei’s contributions to the nation’s peace and prosperity. The artifacts on display demonstrate how Brunei has maintained social cohesion and stability through its steady Malay Islamic Monarchy system , while also showcasing the royal family’s centuries-long efforts to preserve national peace.

On that day, young volunteers from around the world engaged in eye-catching flash performances and demonstrations at various landmarks. Through pure vocal music and vibrant dances, they fostered cultural exchange and spread positive energy. Visitors were also invited to participate in the pledges for the International Day of Conscience, World Day of the Power of Hope, and Transparency and Integrity, aiming to promote greater trust, harmony, and prosperity globally.

Yong, a Malaysian student majoring in computer science at a university in Brunei, said the world is becoming increasingly chaotic, and he found participating in the pledges highly meaningful. He believes that love and peace are essential in today’s world, and that everyone can start by loving themselves each day; when the world is free of war, all people can experience lasting happiness. Another participant, Tajul Ashikin, who came with his child to watch Superman, felt that promoting love and peace is truly a superhuman act. He strongly agreed with FOWPAL’s philosophy, saying, “We are all Supermans.” Italian visitor Sergio Cruciani, in an interview with volunteers, expressed his support for the initiative aimed at bringing peace and hope to the world. He wished for lasting global peace, where everyone can live with dignity, be true to themselves, and, above all, coexist harmoniously.
