More than 100 persons gathered in Harlem, New in York City, on Oct. 11, to join Jeffrey Steinberg, Counterintelligence Editor for EIR, and Terry Strada, co-chair of 9/11 Families United for Justice Against Terrorism, in demanding the release of the excised 28 pages of the 2002 Joint Congressional Committee Inquiry into 9/11. The meeting was sponsored by the Schiller Institute, and was a follow-up to the June 14 Conference also held by the Institute in New York City, entitled “It’s Time To Create a World Without War.” By the conclusion of the Harlem meeting, the world of American politics had been fundamentally altered, by processes intersecting that conference, international processes which that conference both embodied and catalyzed.

The battle continues to rage for the Kurdish town of Kobani, Syria, on the Turkish border, between Kurdish militia, backed by U.S. airstrikes, and the Islamic State (IS). The outcome of this battle will determine who controls key points along the border connecting Turkey, Syria, and Iraq. As has been widely reported, the Turkish government is backing IS to block the creation of an autonomous Kurdish region in Syria, bordering the Kurdish region in Iraq, which has already established quasi-independence.

Matera to be 2019 European Capital of Culture in Italy

In accordance with the Decision of the European Parliament and the EU's Council of Ministers, which sets out the criteria for the European Capital of Culture, Bulgaria and Italy are the two Member States which will share the title in 2019. The final selection in Bulgaria took place in September, with the panel recommending that Plovdiv should be awarded the title.
