UNICEF calls for investments to increase alternative care

Approximately 94 per cent of all unaccompanied and separated refugee and migrant children currently in Italy, 6,172 children under 18, are living in reception centres, often isolated and cut off from opportunities to build their future, said UNICEF on Dec 05, 2019. The agency urged authorities to increase community and family-based housing solutions across the country.

270 million people are migrants, who send home a staggering $689 billion

The number of international migrants in 2019 is now estimated at 270 million and the top destination remains the United States, at nearly 51 million, the UN migration agency said on Wednesday.
