EPA Orders Public Water System on Indian Reservation in Riverside County to Address Arsenic in Drinking Water

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency last week ordered D&D Mobile Home Park to address violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act. D&D, located on the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indian Reservation in Riverside County, was found to have high levels of arsenic in its public system that provides drinking water to its 300 mobile park residents.

Synthesis of Catalysts to Accelerate Purification of Industrial Wastewater

Iranian researchers from the Islamic Azad University succeeded in the presentation of a new type of catalyst with appropriate capabilities to be used in the purification of wastewater produced by industries that deal with nitroaniline compounds.

Ten sites in nine countries added to Global Geoparks Network

The Global Geoparks Network now covers nine new members, with the addition of sites in Austria, China, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Turkey and Uruguay. The new sites bring the total number of Geoparks in the Network to 100, located in 29 countries. They were inscribed during the 3rd Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network Jeju Symposium, which took place on Jeju Island, Republic of Korea, from 7 to 13 September.

The Global Geoparks Network links geological heritage sites of international importance, rarity or beauty that serve to promote sustainable development for local communities. The Network was created with UNESCO’s support in 2004 to encourage cooperation between geological heritage experts and practitioners.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced settlements with Shell Gulf of Mexico, Inc. and Shell Offshore, Inc. for violations of their Clean Air Act permits for arctic oil and gas exploration drilling in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas, off the North Slope of Alaska.
