Greenpeace climbers block busiest oil export channel in United States
Twenty-two Greenpeace USA climbers have formed a blockade on the Fred Hartman Bridge in Baytown, Texas, United States, shutting down the single largest fossil fuel thoroughfare in the United States. The climbers intend to remain secured in place for 24 hours, preventing the transport of all oil and gas through the channel.

Breeding area for humpback whales threatened by oil exploration, warns Greenpeace
Scientists have confirmed the presence of a new breeding and feeding area for humpback whales in French Guiana. The region is threatened by oil exploration by BP. The British energy giant is currently attempting to gain the environmental license to drill near the so-called Amazon Reef off the northern coast of Brazil, where an oil spill could devastate nearby waters and habitats including those of French Guiana. Last year, the French company Total had its license to drill near the Amazon Reef denied, but BP could start drilling as soon as this year.

Electricity consumption from China’s internet industry to increase by two thirds by 2023 – Greenpeace
China’s internet data center industry emitted an estimated 99 million tonnes of CO2 in 2018, new research from Greenpeace East Asia and the North China Electric Power University shows. Researchers found that increasing the sector’s renewable energy intake by 7% over the next five years would reduce carbon emissions by 16 million tonnes.
