Government of Sri Lanka and World Bank Sign Agreement to Protect Sri Lanka’s Ecosystems
The Government of Sri Lanka and the World Bank signed a US$45 million credit to help protect Sri Lanka’s natural habitats and resources from degradation and over -exploitation, on 5th September. The project will assist the government improve the lives and livelihoods of neighboring communities, who suffer the most from natural resources loss and degradation.

Latest ocean warming review reveals extent of impacts on nature and humans
Ocean warming is affecting humans in direct ways and the impacts are already being felt, including effects on fish stocks and crop yields, more extreme weather events and increased risk from water-borne diseases, according to what has been called the most comprehensive review available on the issue, launched by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Hawai‘i, on 5th September.

Countries bordering Indian Ocean to test tsunami preparedness down to community level
Together, they will test standard operating procedures of the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System including communications links between all stakeholders, as the rapid transmission of messages between authorities and populations at risk is crucial to save lives in the event of a tsunami. The exercise will include community evacuation drills in at least ten countries, involving over 50,000 participants.
