South Korean President vows to phase out nuclear and coal - Greenpeace

South Korean President, Moon Jae-in, on June 19th, announced a major shift towards renewables by phasing out nuclear and coal. In the ambitious speech, Moon promised to scrap existing plans for new nuclear plants and will not extend the life of old reactors; and promised to shut down 10 old coal power plants and cancel new coal projects.

EU channels extra support for Portugal to help with forest fires

The European Commission has responded swiftly to Portugal's request for assistance in order to tackle the deadly forest fires.

France has offered three planes, Spain two and Italy two. Spain also offered four on a bilateral basis. The planes will operate in the affected areas such as Vila Real, Coimbra and Leiria.
