In a letter to the German minister for development, the members of German coalition for the Global Campaign for Education are pushing for a bolder engagement and higher financing of education in the context of development aid.

Parliament calls on member states to support the Commission's aim of increasing the share of EU humanitarian funds for the education of children in emergencies to 4% and on all host countries to help integrate child refugees in their national education systems, in a resolution passed on Thursday. It points out that education reduces the risk of young people becoming engaged in extremism.

Governments need to tackle persistent inequalities in education and focus on improving efficiencies in their education systems in order to ensure that every child, whatever their background, can realise their full potential and benefit from a good education, according to a new OECD report.

On 20 November, the World celebrates the Universal Children’s Day. The Convention, which is the most widely ratified international human rights treaty, sets out a number of children’s rights, including the right to education.
