Traditional Korean wrestling listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage following unprecedented merged application from both Koreas

The Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, meeting in Port Louis (Mauritius), has decided to inscribe traditional Korean wrestling, ssirum/ssireum, on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, on the basis of a joint application by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea.

Four sites added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List

The World Heritage Committee, meeting in Manama since 24 June under the chair of Shaikha Haya Bint Rashed al-Khalifa of Bahrain, inscribed two cultural sites in Germany and Turkey as well as two mixed (i.e. both cultural and natural) sites in Canada and Colombia, on the World Heritage List on July 1. The inscription of sites will continue on 2 July.

March 2nd is Chinese Lantern Festival in 2018. The festival has been celebrated everywhere and over 2000 years. Pingxi Sky Lantern festival is one of the most popular local events, special in Lantern Festival, in the world. A group of volunteers from Tax and Legal Union attends this event and, at least, releasing thousands of sky lanterns between March 1st, and March 2nd, 2018. Volunteers of Tax and Legal Union hope to have better living standards, to maintain local companies in Taiwan, and to resolve the difficulties of low-income on younger generations.
