UNHCR regret at deportations of Venezuelans from Trinidad and Tobago

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, deeply regrets the deportation this past weekend by Trinidad and Tobago of 82 Venezuelan nationals. The 82 include registered asylum-seekers and individuals who had declared an intention to apply for refugee status, making their return to Venezuela a breach of international refugee law.

Caravan Arrives at US Border; Not Welcome, Tweets Trump

According to news reports some members of a caravan of migrants that has been crossing Mexico have arrived at the U.S. border.

The reports say that a several dozen members of the caravan have reached the border in Tijuana, Mexico. A few have applied for asylum, but most are awaiting a larger caravan contingent of about 500 asylum-seekers that is expected to reach the border in coming days.

500,000 children affected by drought in Afghanistan – UNICEF

The lack of precipitation in late 2017 and early this year is leading to food insecurity and water scarcity that could worsen the already high malnutrition rates among children.

The extremely dry winter has affected 22 provinces across Afghanistan and now threatens to negatively impact the lives of one million people, with an additional two million who could feel its effects over the coming months.
