WWF launches fight against wildlife crime

In response to record poaching rates, WWF today is launching a global campaign calling governments to combat illegal wildlife trade and reduce demand for illicit endangered species products. Demand for ivory, rhino horn and tiger parts from consumer markets in Asia is driving wild populations dangerously close to extinction.

Greenpeace Arctic oil drilling protest ends after five days as sea ice record announced

28 August 2012, Pechora Sea — Greenpeace International activists continued their peaceful protest against Gazprom's Arctic drilling platform Prirazlomnaya into a fifth day, with activists spending the night in inflatable boats, hovering between the Prirazlomnaya and the passenger vessel Anna Akhmatova.

At 5 am CET, 10 Greenpeace International activists from eight countries sprang into action to intercept the Anna Akhmatova and attempted to prevent it from mooring next to the Prirazlomnaya.

Greenpeace Response to Record Summer Arctic Sea Ice level

Preliminary figures released today from US National Snow and Ice Data Centre indicates that Arctic sea ice extent has passed the previous record low set in 2007. On 26th August it fell to 4.10 million km2, some 70,000km2 lower than the 2007 level.

Tense stand-off as Greenpeace International Executive Director and 13 others again take action against Gazprom in Russian Arctic

27th August 2012, Pechora Sea – Just days after occupying Gazprom's Prirazlomnaya oil platform in the Pechora Sea, Greenpeace International is again taking peaceful action to stop the company from putting the final touches on its platform to begin Arctic oil drilling.

Greenpeace International Executive Director Kumi Naidoo and six other Greenpeace activists headed toward the platform early this morning in two high-speed boats to intercept the Anna Akhmatova passenger vessel as it prepared to drop off the workforce to the Prirazlomnaya. Two hours later, another two boats with seven more activists arrived on scene. There are now 14 activists in place from 10 different countries.
